The Chronicles of Israfel is a progressive, experimental metal band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is Dominic Cifarelli’s debut solo album (former guitar player for Pulse Ultra)and is based on a fictional story he wrote. He has been working on the recording of this album for over a year now. The project was born during a very uncertain and difficult period in his music career leading up to the breakup of Pulse Ultra. Many late night jam sessions with friend and drummer Joey bastone and the viewing of violent Japanese Anime movies helped form the sound of this sometimes brutal and very dark album. The first part “Starborn, Tome I”, follows Israfel, the main character, in his search for a new home and the self discovery of his superior inner design

Pain of Salvation is a Swedish progressive metal band featuring Daniel Gildenlow, who is the lyricist, chief composer, guitarist, and lead vocalist. Their sound is characterised by powerful, accentuated guitar work, broad vocal range, abrupt switching between heavy and calm passages, intense syncopation, and polyrhythmic experimentation. Another trademark of the band is that each album is a concept album. Some examples of the topics addressed in the band’s albums are: war and its effect on family and humanity, environmental issues (e.g., nuclear power), the forming of the individual, and the nature of God, humankind, and existence.
