Melodic Death/Progressive Sludge
Ghost Brigade is a five-piece metal band from Jyvaskyla, Finland, formed in 2005. They have taken elements from melodic death metal, doom metal and progressive metal into their music. Wille Naukkarinen (guitars): “In Ghost Brigade, selling albums is not what it’s about. It’s about the feeling I get when I wrote a new song, which I only get when I know the song is good enough. The metaphor for that is “the fire”. That explains the title of the album. We are guided by fire.” A quote on their website states (by date of the debut release) “there’s nothing above or below us, no written word wise enough, just notes that carry the silent fire.”

‘neath is a progressive/death metal band from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
Initially drawn together through a combination of adolescent naivety and musical curiosity, ‘neath have evolved from sheer neighbourhood-clearing clamour into a modern progressive death metal band who are continually evolving towards a sound of their own.
Inspired predominantly by European death & doom metal, ‘neath are constantly searching for ways to distinguish their sound within the metal genre.

If you’re a prog fan looking for the cream of the nineties progressive releases then add Poland’s QUIDAM to your list. Influenced by MARILLION and CAMEL, this band elegantly blends harmonies, refined arrangements and diversity of orchestrations (keyboards, cello, flute, oboe, strings).
The neo prog style guitar playing is interlaced with haunting flute, cello that evokes depth, female vocals and keyboards that give an orchestral fullness to the music. Their style is a melodic, text-based (female vocals) symphonic rock. The rhythms intensify, the symphonic keyboard textures thicken and the electric guitar plays long melancholic notes. QUIDAM is certainly the main and most appreciated act to have emerged from this field, with ABRAXAS and COLLAGE.

Conceptual heavy prog band with a strong, intricate music, with a wide spectrum of feels and textures. The keyboards give the final touch, and the guitars are extremely heavy and crunchy. As a matter of fact, these Italians are, the most innovative and original contemporary progressive band.
