The Mutants - CD Discography

Finland’s finest, freaky instrumental rock quintet The Mutants are back with their brand new third studio album “Grave Groove” on Ranch Records. Recorded by Pentti Dassum and mixed by Jürgen Hendlmeier, the album takes a more rocking, guitar-based approach which is a heavy yet groovy mixture of all good things from past and present. Some people may call it garage rock with mambo and surf influences from the era of blaxploitation movies and beyond, but we simply encourage the dear listener to make their own judgement!
On “Grave Groove” the band continues with the second episode of their mobster trilogy “Meadow Hill” with guest vocals from Nadi Hammouda. The Mutants recorded the album tracks live in studio with minimal overdubs. You can hear from their tight and groovy playing that their musicianship is major league stuff and songwriting is also reaching some new heights with excellent tracks like current live favourite “Outerspace Odyssey” with some hippie groove and golden Haight-Ashbury era backing vocals.
Last years gigs all around the world, from Helsinki to Germany and Argentina, proved that no matter where the guys play, it’s going to be a beer soaked fest from start to finish. This year the band will celebrate their 10th anniversary with more relentless touring. Please check their website for more info on upcoming gigs. Meanwhile, have a blast with “Grave Groove”!

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble (TKDE) formed in 2000 as a project to compose new music for existing silent movies. Jason Köhnen (aka Bong-Ra) and Gideon Kiers, both graduates of the Utrecht School of Arts, combined their audio and visual skills to reinterpret classic movies by F.W. Murnau (Nosferatu) and F. Langs (Metropolis).
In 2004 UK trombonist Hilary Jeffery and Swiss cellist Nina Hitz joined TKDE to record the self-titled debut album which was released on Planet Mu Records in May 2006. The ensuing tour saw Eelco Bosman and Paris based vocalist Charlotte Cegarra join, forming the Ensemble into a sextet. London based violinist Sadie Anderson joined in 2008 to supply the group with extra power on stage.
The Netherlands has been TKDE’s homebase since 2007, while members have moved closer to each other to make composing and producing easier.
Apart from the mothership which is TKDE, there is another entity; The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation is a live improv jazz / drone / doom side project consisting of TKDE members and a host of interchanging guest musicians.
Due to the vast possibilities within the band, the sound spectrum of TKDE is hard to capture within one specific composition. Moreover, the project will lean towards various styles depending on the respective members working together at a given time. A good mix between atmosphere and technique is always the strong basis for a TKDE composition.
Live TKDE fuse analog and digital as much as possible. Combining traditional instrumentations (comprising cello, trombone, violin, beats, guitar, bass and vocals) with existing and/or self-developed software, continuously blending and mutating, creating an organic and electronic performance, supported by visuals which add to and interact with the frequencies of said instruments.

Causa Sui - Discography

In the late summer of 2004, CAUSA SUI were formed with four players, each of whom had gained his enough experience in his own hardcore metal band. With cringing at Danish pop music scene in those days, they all groped for playing progressive and experimental music, and conclusively found they should play heavy psychedelic and stoner rock they had never lost the desire to make their style with.
Causa Sui (meaning cause of itself in Latin) is four Danes in their early/mid-twenties, who have made and released music together since before they were teenagers in various genres.
Causa Sui is not the hipster’s unintelligent 60ies-look nostagia music, not a scholar’s sad search for the most complex of compositions, nor a neanderthal take on sludgy riffs. This is free music – all written, shaped, played and produced by the band during 9 months of isolation.
Imagine the furious haze of manic Hendrix and Blue Cheer jamming with a young Iggy Pop, recorded and seamlessly layered by krautrockers Can. It’s untamed music picked up from the late 60s, not looking back at zeitgeists and other limitations, picking up different trails on the way, wrapped in a complex, but soundwise warm and simple jacket.
Play loud indeed!

A duo from San Francisco, CA formed in 2003 by the rhythm section of the disbanded stoner-doom metal band Sleep. The band’s first three albums feature Al Cisneros on vocals and bass and Chris Hakius on drums.
Their music is similar in structure to Tibetan chanting and is rich in rhythm and melody. Their music and lyrics lift off at the beginning and slowly mutate giving a feeling of evolution inside each song. The vocals have a monotone quality, producing, on some tracks, a noticeable hypnotic effect of the sort that tends to be appealing to the devotees of the many various genres of druggishly-bent, “space” music—but which not all music calling itself “stoner rock” necessarily is able to caus

QUANTUM FANTAY started in 2004 when Pete Mush and Jaro formed a new band after they've both been in the now disbanded "OREGON". Pete is the current keyboard player in the Belgian progressive rock band "GIRRIBIZZI" and Jaro is handling the bass in a local cover band. Soon Gino Bartolini and Charles Sla came on board. QUANTUM FANTAY plays a kind of music they like to describe as liquid space rock. If this discription sounds unfamiliar maybe the name of OZRIC TENTACLES does ring a bell. But QF is a lot more than just a clone of OZRIC. Their music is sounding like a mixture of progressive rock, electronic music, groove, world music and most of all psychedelic rock, it also contains elements of reggae and dub.

Their first and only album "Agapanthusterra" is full of instrumental music, sometimes lush and cosmic, on other moments space rocking like Hawkwind. The variety of influences and calm and up-tempo section is fascinating from start to finish. Their sound is full of different instruments and sound effects although the keyboards are an substantial part of it. There's a notably science fiction feel to the instrumental music which also has some noticeable prog elements especially in guitar and keyboard parts. Extremely recommended !
