Heir Apparent rose from a basement in North Seattle in 1984 to release one of the most highly acclaimed independent Heavy Metal debut albums of 1986 throughout Europe, “Graceful Inheritance”. After 22 years, this album remains the highest rated recording in the history of Germany’s ROCK HARD magazine. With the addition of a keyboardist and new vocalist, their second release, 1989′s “One Small Voice”, is regarded as one of the pioneering classics in the Progressive Metal genre. The onset of Grunge in Seattle and subsequent change of trend in music throughout America halted the potential rise of this band’s success. Heir Apparent dissolved in 1989 and remained silent for a decade. However, due to continued loyal interest, especially in Europe, the band is staging a comeback. Heir Apparent has remastered and reissued their back catalog, releasing their studio and “live rehearsal” demos as well in a compilation titled “Triad”. The group was asked to reform for a special performance at the 2000 Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany, which is now available on Video CD. Heir Apparent is currently preparing material for a new album. Often compared to Queensryche simply for coming from the same town and sharing similar influences, the music of Heir Apparent is best described as intense yet melodic, spanning a wide spectrum with intelligent lyrics and interesting arrangements.

Heir Apparent was a progressive metal band that formed in the summer of 1983 in Seattle, USA. At first they were called Sapien and from early 1984 Nemesis before changing their name into Heir Apparent a few months later. In 1986 they released their debut album through a small independent label in France called Black Dragon Records who unfortunately ripped them off and never paid them any money. The label problems were probably the reasons why the band’s career was cut short. In 1999 the band was reformed again and they are supposed to record new material this year (2002). Vocalist Cory Rivers quite in February 1984 to pursue a business career and became vice president of the Mackie Corporation. Earlier on he had been the guitarist of Babylon, a band which featured later to be Queensryche vocalist Geoff Tate.
