Miasma & The Carousel of Headless Horses
1 07 2009Miasma and the Carousel of Headless Horses are a London based instrumental 5 piece band who have been around for about 3 years at the time of writing. The band coalesced around Daniel O'Sullivan, who asked Dave Smith of Guapo to join as drummer. This he did, and at the same time O'Sullivan joined Guapo on keyboards. Since then Guapo's original bassist has left to be replaced by Miasma's Dave Ledden, further strengthening the bond between the two bands. In addition to Guapo the members play in other bands, including Alabama 3, Amal Gamal Ensemble, Knuckles and all manner of other collaborations. Acoustic instruments are prominent and there is an obvious East European folk influence, with some of the feel of Goblin's soundtrack work.
They have released one album so far, Perils, and have also collaborated in a theatrical production with the Horse Hospital.
Although they are listed under RIO/Avant prog, they could also be recommended to fans of progressive folk or anybody with a taste for the bizarre and slightly sinister.
